A Word From Rudament

People often ask me what the most important thing in my studio is. Although there are many necessary components to a well functioning recording studio, a decent preamp is absolutely essential. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this piece of equipment, the pre-amp is what one runs a microphone through before its signal reaches the monitors. If you're looking for a great pre-amp for a decent price, I recommend the Focusrite Platinum TrakMaster. I started using this preamp years ago and I continue to use it to this day.

The Focusrite TrakMaster Pro is equipped with Focusrite's world-famous FET-Based microphone preamp, line, and instrument inputs. It has a fixed high pass filter (12Db down at 75Hz), an opto-compressor/limiter, a mid-scoop EQ, latency-free monitoring and a midnight blue porthole meter. The main output features both a balanced and unbalanced output, an optional digital output (S/PDIF), as well as an external word clock input on the BNC connector.

Since January 2012, I’ve been studying under Rudament the Producer thanks to a collaboration between Bennington College and the Rudament Music Company.

So far, my experience with Rudament has been great!  As a person he is generous, warmhearted, and committed to his friends, followers, and clientele. As a producer, Rudament is knowledgeable in all areas of music, recording and production. From microphone techniques to editing and mastering in the studio, he has already taken me through the process of crafting a beat, recording a vocal track, and mixing the final product. At each step of the way, Rudament gives me a clear explanation of what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. Rudament always makes a concerted effort to ensure that I understand what’s going on, and encourages me to take notes and ask questions. Working with Rudament has been a great experience that will be a key foundation for the rest of my education and career in music.
